COMMUNITY LEADER

Having a foot firmly planted in multiple worlds has impressed upon me the importance of cultural exchange. Less than a century ago, one million Jews lived in Arab lands in relative piece with their Muslim neighbors, now that number is down to a few thousand. Exploring and celebrating those historical bonds has resulted in my becoming one of the premiere West Coast programmers of events that celebrate the heritage of communities from the Middle East and North Africa. Thousands have attended my events that incorporate elements of storytelling, food and music from countries such as Iran, Morocco, Iraq, Libya, Turkey and others. I’ve worked with organizations ranging from the Spanish and Israeli consulates to local theater and urban farming organizations. Below is a link to an interview about my heritage and a sampling of fliers from the dozens of events I’ve produced.

PHOTOGRAPHER

Whether heading out for a nature hike, pulling over and hopping out of the car to take a picture of an interesting building, or documenting a cultural event, I’m always on the lookout for a great shot. On special occasions I’ll pull out my trusty Canon AE-1 35mm that I’ve had since taking my first B&W photography class in Detroit.

VINTAGE COLLECTOR

100s of items including 70s video game consoles, 8mm camera gear, adding machines, records and more fill the walls of my home. It’s a trip through the 20th Century without a time machine. If it has knobs, springs or clicks, I'm into it.
